Ministry to propose flexibility for over 151 types of sports

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will submit a proposal for 151 other types of sports activities including indoor, outdoor and water sports to be given more flexibility.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican through a Facebook post said a KBS team has done its research and will suggest more sports activities, especially those that do not involve physical contact, to be brought to the National Security Council (NSC) Technical Committee meeting today.

He said the announcement of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and the recovery movement control order (RMCO) starting today would bring more flexibility to the sports sector, including the organisation of tournaments and activities that could further boost the sports industry.

KBS will continue to convince the government to open more sports sectors in a safe manner and in phases during the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

"Efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic must continue and we must all play a role in the sports community to strike a balance between our well-being and economic sustainability," he said.

He, however, stressed that in the MCO areas that are still in force, namely Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang, only 10 types of sports are allowed in a limited and controlled manner as announced last week.
