Indonesia enters phase two of Covid-19 vaccination

JAKARTA, Feb 16 — Starting tomorrow, Indonesia will carry out the second phase of its Covid-19 vaccination process, targeting 38.5 million people, including senior citizens.

Others include educators, market traders, religious figures, elected representatives, government officials, soldiers, police personnel, security guards, firefighters, athletes and journalists as well as workers in hospitality, transportation and tourism industries.

The first phase, beginning January 13, focuses on health workers, as well as the country's top leadership while senior citizens started receiving the Sinovac vaccine on February 8.

According to a statement from the Communications and Community Service Bureau, the second round of vaccination is expected to be completed in May 2021, involving more than 16.9 million workers and more than 21.5 million senior citizens.

Indonesia targets to vaccinate some 182 million citizens, and the exercise is expected to completed by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, according to the data published on the official Twitter site of the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) yesterday, so far, 1,096,095 people had received the first dose of the two-dose vaccine while 482,685 have already received the second.
