PUCHONG, Feb 8 — A local council member of the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) was threatened after reporting on an illegal garbage dumping activity.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said this should not have happened as a councillor is appointed by the state government to be responsible in looking after an area as well as the welfare of the residents.

“We regretted this incident but a police report has been lodged and an appropriate action will be taken against the relevant parties who are responsible for illegally dumping garbage on the river banks,” he said after visiting the said dumpsite in Taman Mawar here today.

Also present was MPSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid.

Meanwhile, MBSJ councillor Kenneth Sam said the incident would not discourage him even though he was just appointed last month.

He said the incident took place two weeks ago when someone called him and warned to not disturb the activities being carried out in the area.

“Besides that, I also received threatening messages. It is hoped that this matter will be investigated immediately after a police report is lodged.

"I will make sure the location is cleaned after this to avoid river pollution and no more illegal garbage dumping activities," he said.
