SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The Federal government is urged to establish a ‘green lane’ for foreign tourists after Covid-19 vaccine arrives in the country next month.

Selangor executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian said the move to reopen international borders must be discussed seriously without having to wait for the country to achieve zero positive cases of the infectious disease.

“The government must discuss with countries like Singapore, Brunei or Taiwan which are showing a drop in Covid-19 cases,” said Hee.

Tourists can use the special green lane to enter the country and vice versa.

“When the citizens have been injected with the vaccine, they (the Federal government) must open up to foreign tourists to revive the tourism industry after almost a year of waiting,” Hee said during the Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara talk show last night.

Hee also urged the free vaccine injection for the people to be expedited so that the pandemic crisis can be fully ended, latest by the end of next year.

“The government needs RM3 billion to give free vaccine injections to the people, but only for 80 per cent (of the population), while for the rest, the vaccine to use has yet to be identified,” he said.
