Four-year-old girl feared drowned in Ampang Jaya

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — A four-year-old girl is feared drowned after she fell into a drain before being swept away by strong currents at Kampung Ampang Campuran here this evening.

Selangor Fire and Rescue department director Norazam Khamis said efforts to locate the Rohingya child had to be stopped at around 8.10pm last night as the area had become dark and the water current was still fast.

He said the search mission would be continued at the rubbish trap located a kilometre away from the site of the incident this morning.

"The child is believed to have fallen into the drain around her house at Lorong Ikan Jelawat 8 while playing before being swept into a monsoon drain about 10 metres wide one metre deep," he told Bernama yesterday.

He said the department received an emergency call at 5.50 pm from the victim’s family before two engines and seven personnel were rushed to the location of the incident.
