SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — Selangor has topped the list again as the state recorded 1,428 infections, out of the total 2,234 daily Covid-19 cases reported nationwide today.
Sabah recorded the second-highest number of new cases at 274, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 136.
“Most of the cases reported in Selangor are from the Seruling Cluster with 842 infections (59 per cent) and Hentian Cluster with 315 infections (22.1 per cent),” said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.
He said the infected have been isolated and taken to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC).
“The cases in Selangor are expected to remain high following the expansion of the Covid-19 Screening Programme for Foreign Workers by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the proactive action of employers in the Klang Valley,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said there are no imported cases or deaths reported in Selangor today.
He said out of the 1,428 cases recorded in Selangor, 1,239 were from existing clusters including 39 from the new Tapak Bina Jalan Bukit Cluster, 92 infections from close-contact screenings and 97 others identified from other Covid-19 screenings.
Meanwhile, according to the data by the Selangor State Health Department’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), Klang recorded the highest figure with 853 cases, followed by Hulu Langat (381), Gombak (71), Petaling (63), Kuala Selangor (35), Sepang (10), Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor each with seven infections, and Sabak Bernam with one case.
As of noon today, the cumulative figure of Covid-19 cases recorded in Selangor stands at 18,960, out of the accumulated 78,499 total cases recorded nationwide.
Out of the five new clusters detected today, only one is in Selangor which is the Tapak Bina Jalan Bukit Cluster in Hulu Langat district and as of December 10, 109 individuals were screened and 47 positive Covid-19.
