SHAH ALAM, Dec 8 — Dengue cases in Selangor have decreased to 43,215 in the 49th week of this year compared to 67,600 cases in the same period last year.

Selangor State Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the number showed a decrease of 36.1 per cent (24,385 cases) with 152 outbreak areas detected.

The five districts that recorded the highest number of dengue cases are Petaling with 15,040 cases, Hulu Langat (9,442 cases), Klang (6,814 cases), Gombak (6,390 cases) and Sepang (2,353 cases).

"A total of 37 deaths were reported, a decrease of 31.5 per cent compared to 54 cases in the same period last year," he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Sha’ari advised the community to take preventive measures by cleaning up their premises and homes to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

“Spend 10 minutes weekly to ensure all unused water containers are discarded while permanent containers must be covered or treated with Aedes mosquitoes larvae killer,” he said.
