SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The Selangor state agencies have successfully resolved over 60 per cent of river pollution incidents between January and October this year.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim said within the said period, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) had managed to detect 20 pollution cases.

He said out of the total, 13 of the cases were resolved immediately and had prevented the closure of water treatment plants (WTP) while seven others were unsuccessful.

“Among the types of pollution detected include nine oil spills, seven odour pollution, three caused by industrial and aquaculture effluent discharge and one case due to turbidity.

“However, Luas had recently managed to control several other pollution cases and prevented the suspension of WTP operations, including one incident yesterday in Bandar Bukit Mahkota,” Izham said during a media briefing Sungai Selangor and Sungai Semenyih water supply problem solution plan at the Annex of the Selangor State Secretariat building here today.

Also present was state executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian.

On October 30, Izham said the media briefing was aimed at notifying early measures taken by the Selangor government to overcome the pollution of raw water sources by next year.
