SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The Selangor government is organising a TikTok video and Instagram e-poster contest on Instagram in conjunction with the state-level ‘16-day Activism Against Gender Violence’ campaign.

State executive councillor for women and family development Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the contest started yesterday and offers a chance for local creative industry enthusiasts to win the prize of RM5,000.

She said the video and e-poster competition have also been promoted on social media to raise the awareness among the public on domestic violence issues.

“We also organise coordination committee meetings to address domestic violence in Selangor and webinar sessions with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to better understand the issue.

“Apart from that, we have also distributed 20,000 orang face masks and face mask casings which are plastered with stickers that include emergency contact numbers of the state assembly’s centre for empowered women (PWB),” she said during her speech at the campaign’s launching ceremony, which was attended by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, at the Selangor State Secretariat building, here yesterday.

Dr Siti Mariah said all the programmes  include involvement of stakeholders as a way to support efforts in combating discrimination against women.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is globally celebrated on November 25.

The campaign this year upholds the theme ‘Orange the world: Fund, prevent, respond and collect’ as a measure to be taken by governments and the society at large to overcome violence issues.
