89 arrested for breaching RMCO

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The Royal Malaysia Police arrested 89 individuals for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO) yesterday, 77 of whom were compounded and 12 others were remanded, said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said among the offences committed included not wearing face masks (30 cases), not adhering to physical distancing (29), failure to provide facilities for recording details of customers (14), defying the RMCO (10), indulging in pub and night club activities (5) and operating in unlicensed premises.

Ismail Sabri said under the Ops Benteng mounted yesterday, 22 illegal immigrants and two smugglers were detained, while a boat and nine vehicles were seized.

The minister said between July 24 and yesterday, 38,843 individuals have returned to Malaysia and of the total, 8,648 individuals were undergoing mandatory quarantine, 106 were admitted to hospitals for treatment and 30,089 had been discharged and allowed to return home.
