Covid-19: 11 new cases including three local transmissions - Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — Another 11 Covid-19 positive cases, three of them being local transmissions and eight imported, were reported in the country today, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this brings the cumulative total of positive Covid-19 cases in Malaysia to 9,114, with 172 being active cases.

The local transmission cases involved two Malaysians who were screened as symptomatic at a medical centre in Kedah while another was a non-citizen who was detected through the new detainees screening at the Tawau Police Station lock-up in Sabah.

“The two locals have been admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Kedah. These two cases are not closely related to each other," he said in a statement.

Of the eight imported cases, Dr Noor Hisham said seven cases involved Malaysians and one non-citizen.

For the imported cases, Dr Noor Hisham said three each were from Singapore and the Philippines while one each from Australia and Japan.

He said eight more patients have recovered and this brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 8,817 (96.7 per cent of the total number of cases).

He said no fatalities were reported today, keeping the death toll at 125.

“Only one case is still being treated in the intensive care unit and there are no patients on ventilator support,” he added.
