MACC uses e-Sports to convey anti-corruption public messages

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 12 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) became the first enforcement agency to use the e-Sports approach as a platform in conveying anti-corruption messages to the community through the MACC PUBG (Player Unknown Battle Ground) Mobile i-Challenge programme.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the objective of the programme was to reach out to the e-community, aged between 12 and 60, to spread anti-corruption messages as well as expose the public to the function and role of the MACC online, to jointly eradicate corrupt activities.

"Awareness campaigns on the evils of corruption should always follow current trends or social culture so that the approach and medium used is appropriate and will not be ignored by the community," he told the media after launching the programme, here yesterday.

Azam said the programme was timely because based on MACC data, the highest group involved in corruption in recent years were those aged between 40 to 50 years.

Meanwhile, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil said the programme was a collaboration between the MACC and the Malaysian ESports Federation aimed to bring participants closer to the MACC virtually.

According to him, among the elements that will be highlighted is the MACC logo with the tagline "Rasuah Dihina Maruah Dibina" (Corruption Frowned Upon, Dignity Restored) at every staging throughout the programme.

The winner of each series will also be awarded a star in the form of the MACC logo, commentators will talk repeatedly about taking bribes and the initiatives carried out by the MACC throughout the match.

The programme, which is implemented in stages starting from the screening stage on Aug 17 until the finals on Sept 6 and expected to attract about 1.6 million e-sports fans nationwide, offers a total prize of up to RM9,000.
