KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — A total of 7,175 individuals have returned to Malaysia via the country’s entry points from July 24 until yesterday and all of them are currently housed in 30 hotels and five Public Training Institutes (ILAs).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the total, 20 individuals were tested positive for Covid-19 and sent to hospital for treatment.
He said that they had returned from 30 countries including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Japan, Turkey, South Korea, China, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Australia.
He said this in a statement on the development of the recovery movement control order (RMCO) here today.
On the Compliance Operations Task Force led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Ismail Sabri said that the authorities had detained 140 individuals for disobeying RMCO directives.
He explained that out of the total of those detained, 32 were remanded while another 108 individuals were issued with compounds for engaging in activities involving large crowds that made physical distancing difficult.
Meanwhile, he said that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs was conducting daily monitoring of 12 types of goods at 727 business premises including retailers (507), wholesalers (191) and manufacturers (29).
Ismail Sabri said that the ministry’s enforcement officers also conducted 1,355 checks on RMCO SOP compliance and found that 1,335 premises complied with the prescribed instructions while 18 premises were given advice for not complying with SOP.
“Overall, the supply of essential goods is sufficient and able to meet the needs of the country.
“There are two premises that have been issued with a warning for non-compliance with the SOP. During this RMCO period, the government has urged entrepreneurs and the public to practice self-discipline, including physical distancing and personal hygiene, especially in the activities of buying and selling daily necessities,” he said.
