Single-digit new Covid-19 infections recorded today

SHAH ALAM, July 23 — The number of new Covid-19 cases had dropped to a single digit with nine new infections after recording double-digits the past four days.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of cases to 8,840 with 143 patients still under treatment.

He said out of the nine new cases registered, three were imported cases while the remaining six were local infections involving four Malaysians in Sarawak and two foreigners, which were detected in Sabah and Kelantan each.

"The imported cases had included one Malaysian and two foreigners, who either have family residing in Malaysia or was allowed to enter the country for work purposes.

"The cases had each come from Singapore, India and the Philipines," said Dr Noor Hisham at a press conference in Putrajaya, today.

He said eight recoveries were recorded as of noon today, pushing the total number of those discharged to 8,574 or a 97 per cent recovery rate.

Five positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, with two patients requiring ventilator support.

No deaths were reported, leaving the death toll at 123 or 1.39 per cent out of the total cases.
