SHAH ALAM, July 15 — Eighteen out of 24 deaths due to Covid-19 in Selangor involve chronic patients, said state health exco.

Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said nine of the patients suffered high blood pressure, six (diabetes), two (heart) and one (cancer).

“The victims who suffered from these symptoms could not overcome the virus well.

“This is why the state government took the direct approach in conducting Covid-19 tests at the homes of the target groups, which are the elderly, to contain the spread of the coronavirus,” said Dr Siti Mariah when answering an oral question from Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

As of noon (12pm) yesterday, Selangor recorded 2,093 Covid-19 cases with one new positive case.

Currently, eight districts including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Hulu Selangor and Gombak have been declared as a green zone, while Sepang is a yellow zone with 11 active cases.
