Moderate earthquake in southern Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 12.35 pm today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department’s statement, the earthquake took place at a depth of 60km, about 192 km northwest from Bengkulu.

There was no tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
