SHAH ALAM, May 15 — Aside from financial assistance, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro traders that have been affected by the Covid-19 crisis are in need of a business platform, says Selangor Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said on top of the financial aid and business knowledge sharing, the state government had also provided an e-commerce platform that can help entrepreneurs move to online sales during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The traders are not only facing financial problems in sustaining themselves but what is important is how we can help in providing a new platform for them to run their businesses,” he said as one of the panellists during the Covid-19 online discourse, organised by DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) head Howard Lee Chuan How, last night.

Amirudin said the state Raya e-bazaar, in collaboration with online shopping platform Shopee, had attracted 2,000 participants in just a few days after it was introduced.

“Resources is not the only issue but it is about how we can shift the sellers from direct sales to online sales. A large e-commerce platform would also help the state’s economic situation,” he said.

On April 24, the Selangor government had announced the E-Bazaar Raya Selangor, which offers the opportunity for entrepreneurs to market their products online to generate income during the festive season.
