SHAH ALAM, May 2 — After two weeks of recording double-digits in new infections, Malaysia today saw a three-digit surge in new Covid-19 cases with 105 daily cases registered.
The last triple-digit new cases recorded was on April 16 with 110 cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said out of the total new cases, 11 are imported cases whereas the remaining 94 are local transmissions.
“Out of the new local infections, 38 involves foreigners while the other 56 are Malaysian citizens. A total of 60 cases were detected in the areas enforced under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO),” he said during a media briefing on the Covid-19 update at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, today.
Dr Noor Hisham said this brings the accumulated cases to 6,176 with 1,747 active Covid-19 cases.
He said Malaysia now has a 70 per cent recovery rate with 116 recoveries recorded today, pushing the total patients discharged to 4,326.
“There are 31 patients receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 12 requiring respiratory aid,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said the death toll remained at 103 as there was no fatality reported today.
