Total Covid-19 infections rise past 6,000 mark, more imported cases recorded

SHAH ALAM, April 30 — Malaysia now has 6,002 total coronavirus cases as there are 57 new Covid-19 cases recorded as of noon today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 25 out of the total daily cases are imported cases while the remaining 22 are locally transmitted infections.

He said the number of recoveries outnumbered the new cases registered with 84 patients discharged, bringing the total tally to 4,171, or a 69.5 recovery rate.

There are 1,729 active cases out of the total positive Covid-19 cases.

“A total of 36 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 14 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said two fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll to 102, which translated to 1.7 per cent fatality rate.

He said the reported two deaths are as follow:

  • Case 4,657: A 64-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of blood cancer. He had close contact with a positive Covid-19 case (case 4,476, who is linked to the Persons Under Investigation Bali cluster). He was treated at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Pahang on April 12 and declared dead yesterday at 4.14 pm.
  • Case 5,282: A 72-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure. He was treated at Sarawak General Hospital on April 16 and declared dead today at 12.55 pm.
