SHAH ALAM, April 30 — More Malaysians feel that the country is now heading in the right direction while facing the current Covid-19 pandemic.

A recent survey conducted by a market research company, Ipsos, found that the sentiment has grown, with 66 per cent of the people being confident with the current situation as of April, as opposed to only 35 per cent in March.

The Ipsos survey on “What Worries the World” also revealed that the main public concern is the novel coronavirus, where 85 per cent of the Malaysians are worried about the infection.

“The majority (66 per cent) of Malaysians think things in the country is heading in the right direction. Coronavirus currently occupies the top spot for concern with 85 per cent saying this,” it said in a statement today.

The survey also showed that in April, 43 per cent of Malaysian were also concerned with unemployment, which is a 1 per cent increase from the previous month.

However, the worry over financial or political corruption has dropped by half to 30 per cent.

Out of the 28 countries participating in the survey, Malaysia ranked seventh as the top country anxious over job and employability.

The survey is conducted monthly in 28 countries worldwide via the Ipsos Online Panel system.

The average 1,000 Malaysian participants in the survey are aged 16 to 74.

Some of the other countries included in the survey are Australia, Canada, China, France, Great Britain, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, and the United States of America.

Yesterday, the Federal government allowed some leeway by allowing two people to travel in one vehicle during the fourth phase of the movement control order (MCO), which began on April 29, to buy food and daily essential items and seek medical services.
