PUTRAJAYA, April 28 — The following is the 8 pm update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (MCMC) Quick Response Team on countering fake news on Covid-19 on social media.
1. The Wakaf, Zakat dan Haji (JAWHAR) Department denies issuing a statement titled ‘Kadar Zakat Fitrah 1441H/2020M’ which contains tithe rates that are not accurate for some of the states in Malaysia. To avoid confusion, JAWHAR advises those making zakat payments to always refer to the website www.jawhar.gov.my for the accurate rates as confirmed by the state Islamic religious councils and Tithe Management Agency (AMZ)
2. The Perlis Health Department (JKNPs) denies news that a senior citizen died on April 26, 2020 at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar, after testing negative when screened for Covid-19. JKNPs explained that the Facebook account owner who spread the news and claimed to be on duty when the incident happened is not a healthcare staff at the hospital.
