SHAH ALAM, April 28 — One coronavirus-linked fatality has pushed the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 100 today or translated to a 1.7 per cent death rate.
However, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of recoveries continues to surpass new cases, where 75 patients have been discharged as opposed to the 31 new daily infections recorded.
This brings the accumulated number of recoveries to 4,032, or a 68.9 recovery rate, out of the total 5,851 confirmed cases registered nationwide. The total active Covid-19 cases now stand at 1,719.
“A total of 36 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 17 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the one recorded death involved a 67-year-old Malaysian man (case 3,628) who had a history of stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.
“He was treated in Sungai Buloh Hospital on April 4 and was declared dead today at 9.40am," he said.
