SHAH ALAM, April 24 — Malaysia continues to record a higher number of recoveries from Covid-19 compared to new infections.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 121 Covid-19 recoveries were registered as of noon today, bringing the total tally to 3,663, or a 64.4 recovery rate.
The number of new positive Covid-19 cases is 88, pushing the accumulated confirmed cases to 5,691. There are 1,932 total active cases.
"A total of 41 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 18 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.
Dr Noor Hisham said one fatality was reported, bringing the death toll to 96, which translated to 1.69 per cent fatality rate.
"The death involved a 61-year-old Malaysian man (case number 2,978) who had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease. He had close contact with a positive Covid-19 case 1,345 who had a travel history from Indonesia. He was treated in Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 31 and declared dead today at 2.29am," he added.
