SHAH ALAM, April 21 — A total of 57 new positive Covid-19 cases were registered as of noon today, bringing the total tally to 5,482. There are 2,041 active cases recorded.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah out of the total daily recorded cases, 18 were imported infections involving Malaysians who have returned from overseas.
“Since April 3, 12,160 Malaysians have returned home and quarantined, where 7,910 samples were taken. Out of the total 95 were identified as confirmed cases, or a 0.7 per cent rate,” he told the media today in a broadcasted daily briefing on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the number of recoveries involved 54 patients, pushing the total recovery to 3,349, or 61.1 per cent out of the total number of cases.
"A total of 43 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 27 of them require respiratory aid," he said.
He added that three Covid-19 fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll in the country to 92, or 1.68 per cent out of the total number of cases.
The reported three deaths are as follow:
- Case 2,050: A 72-year-old Malaysian woman, who had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. She was the mother of a Covid-19 patient, Case 2,053, who had shown symptoms on the same day. She received treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 27. He was pronounced dead yesterday at 1.47pm.
- Case 4,090: A 69-year-old Malaysian man, who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney problem. He received treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital on April 6 and was pronounced dead today at 2.28am.
- Case 5,332: A 92-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and dementia. He received treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on April 8. He was pronounced dead today at 1.30am.
