1,426 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, tally now at 8,041

SINGAPORE, April 20 — Singapore's Health Ministry (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed an additional 1,426 cases of Covid-19 infection, pushing the tally for the Island-city to 8,041.

The ministry said the vast majority of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories while 16 cases are Singaporeans/permanent residents.

"We are still working through the details of the cases, and further updates will be shared via the MOH press release that will be issued tonight," it said in a statement today.

As at 12 noon Sunday (April 19), Singapore classified 4,706 cases classified as dorm residents, 305 involved work permit holders not residing in dorms, 1,008 community cases, and another 569 were imported cases.

With the latest tally, Singapore which reported its first cases of Covid-19 on Jan 23 has recorded the highest number of cases among Asean member countries.

So far, Singapore has gazetted 12 dorms as isolation areas from more than 20 affected dorms with most of the infected dorm residents from Bangladesh, India, China and Myanmar.
