SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The Covid-19 recovery rate in the country is at 58.5 per cent, with a total of 3,102 recorded recoveries.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 135 patients have fully recovered from the disease, double the number of the daily recorded cases.

The number of new positive Covid-19 cases is 54, pushing the accumulated confirmed cases to 5,305. The total active cases are 2,115.

"A total of 51 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 26 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said two fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll to 88, which translated to 1.66 per cent fatality rate.

The reported two deaths are as follow:

  • Case 2,657: A 60-year-old Malaysian man who was diabetic and had high blood pressure. He was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 30 and pronounced dead on April 12 at 3.20pm.
  • Case 5,252: A 36-year-old male Myanmar citizen who was referred to the hospital at a late stage with severe acute respiratory infection. He was treated at the Selayang Hospital yesterday and was declared dead on the same day at 10am.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham had reminded the public to continue complying with the movement control order (MCO).

“Even though the recent drop in cases has shown a positive development, the public must stay at home, observe social distancing for at least 1 metre from other and practise good hygiene habits.

“These measures are important to make sure the chain of infection is broken,” he added.
