Almost 3,000 Covid-19 total recoveries, 69 daily cases recorded

SHAH ALAM, April 17 — The number of Covid-19 recoveries recorded today is significantly higher than the daily registered cases, pushing the total recoveries to 2,967, or a 56.5 per cent recovery rate.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 201 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

He said the country registered 69 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the accumulated confirmed cases to 5,251.

"A total of 51 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 26 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said two fatalities were reported, bringing the death toll to 86, which translated to 1.64 per cent fatality rate.

The reported two deaths are as follow:

  • Case 5,064: A 85-year-old Malaysian man who was a close contact to a positive Covid-19 case (case 4,657), who was linked to the Bali person under investigation (PUI) cluster. He was receiving treatment for blood cancer in a private healthcare facility and was transferred to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Pahang on April 15. He was pronounced dead yesterday at 3.30pm.
  • Case 5,183: A 85-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of stroke and high blood pressure. He was treated at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on April 1 and was pronounced dead yesterday at 8.56pm.
