SHAH ALAM, April 15 — The registered number of Covid-19 recoveries today is almost twice the daily recorded cases.
This makes it the third consecutive day where the number of recoveries exceeded the number of new cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of noon today, 169 patients have fully recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,647 or 52.2 per cent of the total cases.
He said the country registered 85 new positive Covid-19 cases, which is the lowest since the movement control order (MCO) was enforced, bringing the accumulated cases to 5,072.
“A total of 56 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 32 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.
Dr Noor Hisham said one fatality was reported, bringing the death toll to 83, which translated to 1.64 per cent fatality rate.
"The death involved Case 4,988 who was a 69-year-old Malaysian man with a history of high blood pressure and diabetes," he said.
The victim was treated in University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on March 21. He was declared dead today at 6.41am.
