SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The number of Covid-19 patients discharged as of noon today was higher than the daily recorded cases, in which the recorded numbers were at 109 and 121 respectively.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total recoveries to 1,608, or 38 per cent, out of the total tally of 4,228.
“A total of 72 positive Covid-19 patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where 43 of them require respiratory aid," he told a broadcasted daily briefing on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, today.
Dr Noor Hisham said two deaths had been reported, pushing the total fatalities to 67, or 1.58 per cent.
The two deaths were as follow:
- Case 2,798: A 59-year-old Malaysian man with an autoimmune disease and other chronic illnesses. The deceased was related to the Sri Petaling mass gathering and was treated at the Melaka Hospital on March 31. He was pronounced dead this morning at 5 am.
- Case 2,864: A 23-year-old Malaysia woman with a history of thyroid disease. The deceased had close contact with two Covid-19 positive cases (Case 2,469 and 2,470) and was the fifth-generation of the church assembly cluster in Kuching, Sarawak. She was not one of the attendees of the gathering and had received treatment in Sarawak General Hospital on March 20. She was pronounced dead on today at 9.42 am.
