SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The number of Covid-19 patients being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has reduced today, says the Health Ministry.

Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 76 cases are receiving treatment in the ICU with 45 of those requiring respiratory aid, whereas the recorded number in the ICU yesterday was 90 with 50 patients who are on ventilators.

“As of noon today, there are 156 new reported cases, which brings the total to 4,119.

“This means that the number of patients discharged today was higher than the daily recorded cases," he told a broadcasted daily briefing on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry in Putrajaya, today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the total number of recovery is 166, pushing the registered recoveries to 1,487, or 36.1 per cent out of the total cases.

He said two deaths were reported, which are as follow:

  • Case 2,903: A 58-year-old Malaysian woman with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. She was treated at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, Negri Sembilan, from March 20 and was pronounced dead yesterday at 3.20pm.
  • Case 1,906: A 69-year-old Pakistani man who was diabetic and had attended the Seri Petaling tabligh gathering. He had received treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital from March 22, and was pronounced dead today at 9.30am.
