SHAH ALAM, April 8 — Some 22,992 individuals from the Orang Asli community will benefit from the RM297,050 allocation by the Selangor government to help ease their burden during the ongoing movement control order (MCO).

State Environment, Green Technology, Science and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the decision was made in the Selangor state executive council meeting earlier today.

"The funds will aid in terms of daily needs, such as rice, flour, sugar, milk, cooking oil, that amounts to RM50 per household.

"A total of 5,941 households involving 74 Orang Asli villages in the state have been identified," he said in a statement today.

He said the allocation will be disbursed to the respective Land and District Offices that are involved in coordinating the delivery of the aid, with the cooperation of the state coordinators, the Selangor Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa) and Selangor Social Welfare Department.

Hee, who is also the Selangor Orang Asli Affairs Permanent Committee chairman, said the allocation shows the state government’s concern for the public, especially the affected groups, who may face food shortages during the order period.
