SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The Federal government will be distributing free face masks to all Malaysian nationwide soon, limiting it to four units per household.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the 24.62 million masks will be distributed to the state Nasional Security Councils (NSC) before they are delivered to the public.

“In line with the Health Ministry’s recommendation, only those showing symptoms would have to wear the face masks.

"On the district level, the face masks will be delivered to every household by the frontliners," he told a press conference after chairing the Special Ministerial Committee meeting in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri added that the Malaysian Air Force assets will be used to transport the face masks to Sabah and Sarawak to ensure there is no delay.

Last month, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin announced that the government will purchase and distribute face masks to all Malaysians for free, in a bid to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

When making the announcement on March 23, he said the cost of the masks, at around RM1.18 per piece at the time, would be borne by the government.
