SHAH ALAM, April 6 — The Federal government has withdrawn the permission to allow Heineken Malaysia Bhd and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd to continue its operations during the movement control order (MCO) period.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made this morning during a special Cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.
"Yesterday I came across a lot of postings and messages on social media where the people had questioned the approval for both companies to operate during the MCO period.
"Today, we have made the decision to withdraw their permits. Miti (International Trade and Industry Ministry) will issue a termination letter immediately," he told a media conference in Putrajaya today.
Earlier today, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa had on Twitter said the government had cancelled the permit to allow Heineken Malaysia to continue its operations during the ongoing MCO.
Heineken Malaysia was given permission from the government to resume limited operations after it was suspended on March 24, following the enforcement of the control order.
