Region One records 98 pct compliance

GEORGE TOWN, April 4 — The level of community compliance with the movement control order (MCO) at the coastal and sea areas is 98 per cent, according to Region One Marine Police Force (PPM) commander ACP Rosman Ismail.

He said surveys conducted on the coast and seas in Region One, namely, from the waters of Kuala Perlis to Selangor, a 730 nautical miles stretch, showed that the public understood and obeyed the government's instructions by not conducting activities there.

"Thank you to the public and the coastal community as many of them have complied with the MCO.

"I believe the public is beginning to realise that it is important for them to cooperate with the MCO to curb the spread of Covid-19," he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said more than 100 PPM members and officers were involved in patrolling the territorial waters.

After the media conference, Rosman took the media to popular fishing spots especially at the foot of the Penang Bridge and the checks found the areas quiet without the presence of the public.

Surveys along the coast and Jerejak Island also found them quiet and no activity was carried out.
