Selangor Covid-19 task force uses semi-log plotting to determine flattening of curve

SHAH ALAM, April 1 — The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) uses a semi-log plot graphical mapping to determine the flattening the Covid-19 curve.

Heading the special task force, Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad said that the semi-log plot mapping of the Covid-19 cases, which he said has not been done by many, is more effective to measure the curve as compared to a simple graphical presentation of the cases.

“We have drawn that in our task force and I don’t think that has been drawn anywhere else.

“Though you see differential change day-to-day, you would actually get to see the flattening coming, as what could observe in South Korea and China…not with those (simple) kind of graphical presentation.

“You got to do a semi-log plot and we have done it and I have gotten some response on that. That is the only way to show the flattening of the curve,” he said in a talk show, Consider This, on Astro Awani last night.

Semi-log plot is a method to visualise data that are related according to an exponential relationship and can reflect the features in the data that could not be easily determined by linear plotting.
