SHAH ALAM, March 29 — Seven Covid-19 fatalities were reported in Malaysia as of noon today, bringing the death toll in the country to 34 so far.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 150 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 2,470.
At a press briefing on Covid-19 today, Dr Noor Hisham said 68 patients have recovered and been discharged as of today, raising the number of fully recovered cases to 388 so far.
"A total of 73 positive Covid-19 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 34 of them require respiratory aid," he told the media today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 61 out of the 150 new cases were linked to the fifth generation of the tabligh assembly cluster at Jamek Sri Petaling Mosque.
He said some of the new clusters are related to the fourth or the fifth generation of the gathering.
"According to the latest numbers for the tabligh gathering cluster, a total of 17,965 screening has been done with 12,842 samples taken.
"Positive cases from the cluster is 1,254 cases, while 7,084 came out negative," he said, adding that 4,504 are pending results, and a remaining of 5,123 individuals from the gathering are left to be tested.
Dr Noor Hisham said the reported seven deaths are as follow:
- Case 2,321: A 91-year-old Malaysian woman, who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problem. She received treatment at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on March 26 and was pronounced dead on March 28 at 8.48 am.
- Case 2,123: A 64-year-old Malaysian woman with a history of diabetes and high blood pressure. She was treated at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Negri Sembilan on March 25 and was pronounced dead on March 28 at 10.15 pm.
- Case 2,322: A 76-year-old Malaysian man, who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problem and had received treatment at UMMC. He was declared dead on March 28 at 11.33 pm.
- Case 2,323: A 27-year-old Malaysian man, who is the youngest fatality to date. The deceased had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problem. He received treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak on March 27, and was declared dead on March 28 at 7.44 pm.
- Case 1,239: A 50-year-old Malaysian man who had high blood pressure and had attended the tabligh gathering. The patient was treated at the Enche’ Besar Hjh Kalsom Hospital in Johor, on March 22. He was pronounced dead on March 28 at 7.44 pm.
- Case 1,249: A 37-year-old Malaysian man who had a travel history to India. He had received treatment at the Permai Hospital in Johor on March 21 and was declared dead on March 28 at 11.25 pm.
- Case 787: A 77-year-old man who had a history of high blood pressure. He was treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 18. He was pronounced dead on March 29, at 10.40 am
