Malaysia Covid-19 death toll rises to 17

SUBANG JAYA, March 25 — The Health Ministry has reported another Covid-19 related death in less than 24 hours today, bringing the total number to 17.

Its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on his official Facebook said that the said patient, case number 1,251, had passed away at 4.10 am this morning.

“To date, the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) had received a report of another (1) Covid-19 death, which brings the total number of deaths in Malaysia to 17.

“Case 1,251 was a 66-year-old Malaysian who had a history of chronic illness.

“The deceased had shown symptoms a week before admitted to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar, Johor, on March 20,” he said in the statement.

Dr Noor Hisham said the deceased, who was tested positive for Covid-19 on March 21, was already in critical condition upon arrival at the emergency department and was given ventilator support on the same day.

“The patient’s health had deteriorated by day and was pronounced dead on March 25 at 4.10 am. The cause of infection is still under investigation.

“Condolences to the family of the deceased,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Last night, Malaysia recorded the 16th Covid-19 fatality.

The 75-year-old, case number 1,334, had a history of chronic illness and was pronounced dead at 7.40 pm on Tuesday.
