Covid-19: 125 new cases reported, tally now 553

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — A total of 125 new Covid-19 cases were reported as at noon today, bringing cumulative cases in the country to 553, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said.

He said based on early investigation, 95 out of the total new cases were linked to the tabligh religious gathering.

"To date, a total of 12 care are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and requiring ventilator support.

"Due to the increased number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia over the past week, we have entered the late containment phase.

"In the late containment stage, it aims to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection from becoming more serious in Malaysia," he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, in a press conference today, Dr Adham said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is also expected to deliver a special announcement at 9pm.

However, Dr Adham did not elaborate on the announcement.
