Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rise to 27

JAKARTA, March 11 — Covid-19 cases in Indonesia continue to rise, with the tally standing at 27 as of yesterday.

Indonesia's spokesman on the Covid-19 situation in the republic, Achmad Yurianto said eight new cases were confirmed overnight.

"Most of the Covid-19 cases in Indonesia are among those who returned from overseas," he said in an address at the Presidential Palace here, which was broadcast live by local television networks.

Achmad said nine cases reported earlier either proved negative or the patients recovered but were still under close monitoring at the Sulianti Saroso Infectious Diseases Hospital here.

Indonesia has now tightened border controls to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, and from March 8, has also banned travellers from hard-hit countries like Iran, South Korea and Italy.

On March 2, Indonesia, which has a population of more than 270 million people, was also listed as a country with the Covid-19 problem after two of its citizens in Depok (a city near Jakarta) were confirmed positive for Covid-19.
