(UPDATE) Latheefa resigns as MACC chief

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Latheefa Koya today handed in her resignation letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a statement to the media, Latheefa said that the resignation was her own decision and speculations that pressure was brought upon her to do so was baseless.

She said that she had full confidence that the MACC will continue its uncompromising fight against corruption under the capable hands of her officers and with the full support of the prime minister.

"Yesterday, I met the Prime Minister and explained to him my decision to resign. We had a very cordial discussion and he understands my position.

"I also briefed him about our ongoing actions and efforts for the recovery of the stolen 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) monies from abroad. He was fully supportive of these actions," she said.
