KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 — Players in the tourism industry have been asked to intensify promotions to encourage more local tourists to visit local attractions in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020).
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi said this was because local tourists played a key role in the success of VM2020 especially after the global spread of the Covid-19.
"Since the global spread of Covid-19, we expect a decline in foreign tourists arrivals and that is why various promotions are needed to attract local tourists.
"Industry players can also take advantage of the booking cancellations by offering more attractive promotions to local tourists," he said after launching the MYexperience booklet here yesterday.
Mohamaddin said the MYexperience booklet by the ministry is showcasing some 500 niche travel packages provided by about 109 industry players.
The travel packages cover 23 thematic segments, including adventure, ecotourism, food trail and city tour and shopping.
The booklets can be obtained for free at tourism information centres, as well as through www.malaysia.travel and vm2020.malaysia.travel websites.
