KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will provide Komuter train services round-the-clock for four days and three nights beginning February 7 in conjunction with the Thaipusam festival which falls on February 8.

KTMB Operations Control chief Mohd Zain Mat Taha said there will be a total of 310 additional Komuter services this year, raising the total number of services to 832 to facilitate transport for both local and foreign passengers.

"The additional service begins on February 7 (Friday) at 5.45 am and ends on February 10 (Monday) at 9.36 pm. These trains will run on the Batu Caves-Seremban, Seremban-Batu Caves, Port Klang-KL Sentral, and Kl Sentral-Port Klang routes, with train frequency at every 30 minutes.

"A total of 24 stations will be opened during the period, which among others include Batu Caves, Taman Wahyu, Sentul, KL Sentral, Nilai, and Seremban. However, there are no additional train services to and from the Tanjung Malim-Segambut-Tanjung Malim route," he told a press conference here yesterday.

To facilitate travelling to Batu Caves this year, KTMB will open Platform 2 at the Batu Caves station for the first time to ensure smooth flow of passengers, which is dedicated to commuters using the Batu Caves-Sentul-Batu Caves route.

"A shuttle train service between Batu Caves station and Sentul station will be provided with a frequency of 30 minutes.

"Shuttle buses from the Sentul station will also be provided for passengers to continue their journey to KL Sentral with a fare of RM1 for adults while children below 12-years-old of two-way concession ticket holders (senior citizen and persons with disabilities) will ride the bus for free," Mohd Zain said.

He said KTMB would deploy 350 staff and enlist the assistance of the police and St John Ambulance to ensure smooth operations and the safety of passengers.

"We will also cooperate with the Health Ministry to monitor the health and safety aspects of the passengers in our stations in the wake of the 2019 novel coronavirus infection.

"Passengers are also advised to wear face masks for their personal and family’s health," he added.
