KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Tourism Western Australia is urging international visitors who have planned to visit Western Australia to proceed with their travel plans as the state has remained unaffected by Australia’s recent devastating bushfires.

In fact, the agency in a statement today said that the state continues to be open for business.

“The bushfires to the east of the country have attracted international attention which has led to the inaccurate perception that the whole of the country is affected.

“In some cases, international media coverage has misrepresented the geographical reach of the fires. This coverage has not reflected that Australia is a very large country, equivalent to the size of North America,” it said.

The agency added that visitors who have already booked or are planning to travel to Western Australia, are encouraged to find out the most up-to-date information at www.australia.com/en/travel-alerts.html

Australia is facing its worst bushfire since September last year, with New South Wales (NSW) state on the East Coast being one of the worst-hit. It was reported that hundreds of bushfires are burning in NSW alone.

To date, thousands of homes have been destroyed with more than 20 deaths reported and millions of animals were killed due to bushfires since September.
