JAKARTA, Nov 27 — A group of 200 Indonesians today held a peaceful demonstration outside the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta, demanding the Malaysia government to take action against the perpetrators who injured Indonesian football fans in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The de facto leader of a community activist group, Laskar Merah Putih (Red and White Force), Ade Erfil Manurung said they want the Malaysian government to apologise officially over the incident which affected Indonesian nationals.
"We are demanding the Malaysia government to quickly arrest and bring the culprits to justice for the violence against Indonesian football fans,” he said.
The peaceful demonstration ended after Ade Erfil Manurung handed a memorandum of demand to the Malaysian Embassy Police Attache in Indonesia, Abu Bakar Yaacob.
On November 23, police confirmed a viral video showing Indonesians being beaten by Malaysian football fans did not take place at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil near here.
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the dissemination of the uploaded video was aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Malaysia.
The 48-second video clip showed the victims believed to be Indonesians being assaulted by Malaysia supporters after the World Cup 2022/Asian Cup 2023 Qualifying Round match between Malaysia and Indonesia recently.
Malaysian police are studying the video with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The matter also received the attention of the Youth and Sports Ministry which have filed a police report for the authenticity of the video to be investigated.
Police are also calling on individuals with information or witnessed the incident to come forward to assist the investigation.
