SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — Selangor investment arm Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor) has singed three joint undertakings with foreign companies at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona, Spain, yesterday.
The signing of the agreements, which was the first time MBI Selangor inks three pacts at the same time within a day, was held at the Smart Selangor Pavilion Expo at the global event, witnessed by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
In a statement yesterday, MBI Selangor chief executive officer Raja Shahreen Raja Othman said the joint cooperation would take Selangor a step closer in becoming a premier smart state in the Asean region by 2025.
“Our challenge is to ensure the people of Selangor benefit from these cooperations and any similar joint efforts that we may have in the future,” Raja Shahreen was quoted in the statement.
He said the joint undertakings corresponds to the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 national policy, which is a 10-year vision to restructure Malaysia's low-skill labour-intensive economy to a knowledge-based economy.
“With the state already having a head start with Smart Selangor initiative four years ago, we are ready to be part of the Vision in ensuring benefits for all, be it in creating opportunities in business, work and education,” he said.
The annual SCEWC event is the biggest gathering of stakeholders in the field of smart city development, bringing together government authorities, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, thinkers, researchers and innovators to find solutions to urban issues as well as the creation of opportunities for joint cooperation.
The Smart Selangor Pavilion showcases participation from MBI Selangor subsidiaries namely Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad Waste Management (KDEBWM), Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU), Smartsel Sdn Bhd and other state agencies including Selangor Economic Development Corporation-Selangor Industrial Corporation (PKNS-SIC) and Central Spectrum.
