Malaysia beat Indonesia 2-0

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — Malaysia beat arch-rivals Indonesia 2-0 in their 2022 World Cup/2023 Asia Cup qualifier at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here last night.

Harimau Malaya took the lead through a free-kick by Muhammad Safawi Rasid in the 29th minute.

Safawi again sent the crowd wild in the 72nd minute when he let fly a powerful shot from the left side of the goalmouth which beat Indonesian goalkeeper Muhammad Ridho.

Indonesia had a chance to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty after Mohd Farizal felled Febri in the penalty box in the 82nd minute but Mohd Farizal saved the spot-kick taken by Indonesia’s Nigerian-born player Osas Marvellous.

The last time Indonesia beat Malaysia at the National Stadium was when they scored a 4-1 win in the semi-finals of the 2005 AFF Cup, while Malaysia beat them 3-0 and 2-0 in the AFF Cup in 2010 and 2012.
