KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — As of Sunday, some 3.7 million internet users have visited the Petrol Subsidy Programme (PSP) portal at http://psp.kpdnhep.gov.my, since its launch on Oct 15.
Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) secretary-general Datuk Muez Abd Aziz said during the period, the portal recorded 748,095 transactions which included checks, registrations and information updates.
"We want to make sure that no one is left out. We want the people to visit the KPDNHEP portal and submit to us their updated details," he said in a special interview at Wisma Bernama here yesterday.
He noted that as many as 2.9 million Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) recipients under the B40 category were eligible for the PSP and the number is expected to increase as the data are constantly being updated.
The BSH recipients’ data were obtained from the Finance Ministry and cross-checked with vehicle ownership data from the Road Transport Department.
Under the PSP, recipients will enjoy a subsidy of RM30 per month for car owners and RM12 per month for motorcycle owners. The subsidy will be given in the form of a cash transfer and will be credited directly to the recipient’s bank account every four months with the first payment paid in April 2020.
On comments by certain quarters that the PSP subsidy amount was insufficient, Muez said the subsidy was based on a study measuring travel distances and daily needs, based on a monthly usage of 1,500 km or 50 km a day.
"For now the amount is quite reasonable. The minister did say that should there be an urgent need, it will be reviewed. The people should understand that the amount is fair as this will be implemented in January next year," he said.
Asked why those in the M40 income group are not given the PSP subsidy at the same time, Muez said the government wants to proceed first with the B40 group based on the BSH recipients’ basic data.
