SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — Less than 10 per cent of foreigners use the Smart Selangor free bus service, says state Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Ha in dismissing claims that the free bus service is monopolised by non-Malaysians.

“Based on the study conducted in areas under the jurisdiction of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), only nine per cent of foreigners use the free bus service.

“Meanwhile, statistics from the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) shows as of September this year, only two per cent of non-Malaysians use the Smart Selangor Bus service.

“Therefore the claims that more foreigners use this free bus service that has been provided for the people of Selangor is not true,” said Ng in response to a question on the Smart Selangor Bus at the state legislative assembly, here today.

Ng (PH - Kinrara) said the state government are taking measures to ensure that the Selangor residents are comfortable is using the free bus service.

He said this was reflected through the initiative announced by Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari in the Belanjawan Selangor 2020 (Selangor Budget 2020) on Friday of the RM1 charge imposed on foreigners utilising the Smart Selangor Bus.

“We may in the future use cashless payment method to reduce the number of foreigners using the service,” he said.
