SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — The second edition of the Tour de Selangor (TDS) 2019 will kick off on December 18, which will see the participation of almost 120 individuals from 20 teams at both Asian and local regions.
State youth, sports development and human resource development committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the Selangor government continues to endorse the programme as it aspires to develop cycle sport in the state.
“The programme is a manifestation of the state government’s efforts in developing the performance of cyclists while also giving birth to new talents that would bring Selangor as well as the country to greater heights.
“I am confident that the tournament would be a platform to not only accelerate the growth of the sports but also for young athletes to put their capabilities and performance in cycling to test,” he said at the sponsorship handover ceremony for TDS 2019, held at Concorde Hotel here today.
TDS 2019 received a RM1.5 million sponsorship for the four-day programme.
Held from 18 to 22 December, the programme will pass through nine districts in Selangor including Pulau Indah, Cyberjaya, Subang, Selayang and Shah Alam, covering a total distance of 716 kilometres (km).
The participating cyclists would face five different stages, which includes Overall Champion, Sprint King, King of the Hill and Best Young Racers.
Organised by the Selangor State Sports Council, the biennial event is seen as a platform to attract professional and competitive teams as well as to attract investors from the private sector in the state to develop sports tourism and facilities in Selangor.
