Selangor Smart Bus Service Lightens Load for UITM Students

SHAH ALAM - The state government's initiative to extend Selangor Smart Bus route to the UiTM campus in Section 7 will help ease the burden on the students and staff.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari said the free service would also encourage the use of public transportation and is in line with the intention of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to become the City of Carbon Public and Low Carbon Public 2030.

“Increasing the bus route by entering the UiTM campus could ease the burden on students who have had to tie their stomachs because of the rising cost of living," said Amirudin.

"The initiative also complies with the Selangor Smart Bus implementation policy which aims to provide convenience to the target population," he said.

He said this at the Opening Ceremony of Terminal 17 and Launching of the Shah Alam Selangor Smart Bus (SA04) Extension to UiTM Campus, at the Section 17 Bus Terminal on 19 September.

Also present were exco of Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development, Ng Sze Han and exco of Entrepreneur and Rural Development, Village and Traditional Village, Rodziah Ismail.

MBSA Mayor, Dato' Haris Kasim was also present.

Amirudin said the SA04 route had began operations into the UiTM campus in July this year.

He said SA04 would start from Terminal 17 heading to Java Field to Section 7 via the Java Field Commuter Station.

“Among the criteria for the bus route is the need to prioritize the areas of development as well as compact housing areas and to connect with other transportation systems such as commuters," noted Amirudin.

"In addition, the location of these free lanes should be in areas where public facilities, health centers, government offices and schools and business premises are located," he said.

For the record, MBSA spends RM 1.4 million a year on Selangor Smart Bus services for the SA04 route.
